Kindergarten daily routine: what your child’s day at Sovička looks like

The day at Sovička Kindergarten starts at 7:00 and ends, depending on the location, at 17:00 in Kramáre, 17:15 in Ružinov and 17:30 in Vrakuňa. The children go outside in the morning and in the afternoon, have time to rest after lunch, and an English-speaking teacher is with them all day. So your child always knows what comes next, and a steady routine gives them a sense of security.

The daily routine at Sovička

The routine is a guide. When the weather is nice, we stay outside longer, and when the children are tired after a trip, we slow the morning down. You will also find the daily routine for each location on that kindergarten’s page.

Morning: a calm arrival and free play

Children arrive between 7:00 and 8:45, so you don’t have to rush for an exact time. In the morning your child first plays freely, choosing who to play with and what to play with, while their friends arrive. Then comes a short exercise session to music and the morning snack.

Late morning: learning and outdoor time

After the snack comes a learning activity from our “Me and the World” programme, exercise or a club, for example the Jazýček šikovníček speech-therapy club. Then we go outside: in Kramáre and Vrakuňa to the playground, and at all our kindergartens on walks around the area. The English-speaking teacher is with your child during all these activities, so your child hears English naturally throughout the day. You can read more on our Bilingual programme page.

Lunch and rest: does my child have to sleep?

After lunch the children wash their hands and brush their teeth, followed by a story, music and rest. If your child doesn’t fall asleep, that’s fine. Nobody has to sleep. Children who don’t fall asleep carry on with quiet play after a short rest, so they don’t disturb those who need to sleep. If you are wondering whether your child still needs an afternoon nap, read our article Does my child have to nap at kindergarten?

Afternoon: clubs, outdoor play and pick-up

After the afternoon snack it is time for clubs and outdoor play. Please collect your child by closing time at the latest. The teachers who have been with your child all day have families waiting for them at home too. If you can’t come yourself, simply name the person who will collect your child in the parent app. Which clubs are included and which cost extra is on our Clubs and activities page.

What you see of the day in the app

In the Kinderio app you can see your child’s arrival and departure times, the menu with allergens and kindergarten notices. When your child is ill, you mark them absent and cancel meals with one tap. If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well. A sick child passes the illness to the other children and to the teacher. The teacher then has to be covered, the illness goes round the class like a relay, and a few days later your own child is ill again. When to keep your child at home is explained in our article When to keep your child home from kindergarten.

How to prepare your child for the kindergarten routine at home

The move from home to kindergarten is easier when your child’s day already looks like a kindergarten day for a few weeks before they start.

  1. Move wake-up time earlier. If your child needs to be at kindergarten by 8:00, wake them a little earlier step by step, so mornings aren’t a rush.
  2. Eat at similar times. A snack around 9:00, lunch around 12:00 and an afternoon snack around 15:00 help your child to be hungry at kindergarten when food is served.
  3. Introduce an after-lunch rest. Even if your child doesn’t fall asleep, a moment in bed with a book after lunch prepares them for rest time at kindergarten.
  4. Practise self-care. Putting on shoes, washing hands and eating with a spoon save your child a lot of stress at kindergarten.
  5. Talk about what comes next. “After lunch you’ll have a rest, then there’s a snack, and then I’ll come for you” gives your child a sense of security.

What to pack for the first day is in our list What to pack for kindergarten, and how to manage the first weeks is on our Settling in page.
